Our Materials

We adhere to circular economy principles, repurposing and using low-impact material to create long-lasting pieces that you will treasure.

Canvas textile

We use deadstock cotton canvas for the exterior of our bags. Deadstock fabric usually just sits in storage, without purpose. Resources have already been used to create it and what's left may be surplus fabric after designers sample or produce their products. We give back a purpose to this material.

The interior fabric we use comes from various sources of offcuts including furniture makers and an organisation that teaches refugee women how to make accessories.

handloom woven sisal

Sisal is one of the strongest natural fibres in the world. Environmentally friendly and generally rain-fed, the sisal plant is highly adaptable to dry conditions. Our bags feature sisal that is handloom woven by a master artisan in rural Kenya. Sisal fibres are used heavily throughout Kenya with techniques being passed down generations, the most common form being hand-weaving to create gorgeous baskets.

Handmade brass emblem

All of the stunning, sturdy brass hardware has been handmade by brass artisans. You'll find that each piece may have slight variations, giving it a heartwarming human touch. Brass is a heavily recyled metal - most brass used for the hardware is recycled from old door knobs and hinges.

Recycled polyester Swiss zipper

We use high-quality zippers from a renowned Swiss brand. The metal teeth are made from 80% recycled brass and the tape is crafted using recycled polyester.

Our Ethos

You are a part of something beautiful.

We bow down to our heritage while welcoming the future with arms wide open. We create beautiful pieces consciously and slowly, collaborating with artisans across Kenya. Their master craftsmanship allows us to share stories of traditions and cultures evolving. The process of transforming waste textile into a treasured item, lain with handcrafted pieces, is filled with the hope of something beautiful. We bring you African-inspired global pieces, hoping to make you feel as good as the process that created them.
